Ashtead takes Lion Trackhire

Ashtead’s UK operation, A-Plant has confirmed the acquisition of Lion Trackhire from its owners Carl and Gina Springthorpe, Dale and Cheryl Robinson and three other directors and employees.

Lion Trackhire provides temporary roadways, and ground protection solutions, the company was established by John Robinson to commercialise the aluminium trackway and other systems that he had developed since 1965. As such he would also have been involved, supplying or competing with Eve Trackway which was acquired by Ashtead/ A-Plant in 2013.

Lion Trackhire claims to be the world’s largest supplier and has locations in the UK, France and Germany. It had revenues in the year to the end of March 2015 of £15.4 million- up strongly on 2014, pre-tax profits were just over £3 million.

A-Plant said: “The acquisition of Lion Trackhire is an exciting opportunity for A-Plant’s and Lion Trackhire’s customers. The combination will create a more efficient and diversified firm. UK customers will benefit from increased availability of temporary access and flooring solutions in the UK, in the form of competitively priced quality products and services. The combination will also enable A-Plant to expand its business into Europe.”

The transaction is subject to certain conditions and is expected to complete by 31 October.
