Liebherr AT for Cuba

The Cuban division of Dutch based company Womy Equipment, has taken delivery of a 220 tonne Liebherr All Terrain crane.

The company purchased the five axle LTM 1220-5.2 for a long term contract at the Enimcar mine in Santa Lucía, which extracts minerals for the production of lead and zinc.

The mine is currently being prepared for expansion, including its own port facility where a used Liebherr LHM 1400 port mobile crane will be used. Enimcar has also imported a second hand 80 tonne LTM 1080/1 and a 55 tonne LTM 1055-3.1.

The decision to use Liebherr cranes was apparently based on the repair and parts service that the company offers in the region through Liebherr Mexico. The mine has also run several Liebherr earthmoving machines for some with good results. Liebherr works in Cuba with the local branch of German company Con-Impex, which is the official customer service agent for Liebherr mobile cranes and earthmoving machinery in Cuba.

Liebherr Mexico provides commercial and technical advice and support for difficult technical issues, sending engineers from Mexico when needed. The company says that there are currently 20 Liebherr All Terrain cranes working in Cuba, seven of which are operated by state crane rental company Cubiza.
