Yanmar acquires Terex Schaeff

Yanmar Holdings has acquired the Terex /Schaeff compact construction equipment division in Germany for around $60 million.

The business predominantly produces Terex wheel loaders, mini and mid-range excavators and wheeled excavators, it was acquired by Terex in 2001 along with Fuchs- the two companies had merged in 1985. The Schaeff manufacturing facility in Crailsheim, Germany and the parts distribution centre in Rothenberg, Germany, are both included in the transaction. The acquisition is expected to complete this Autumn, following approval of Terex's shareholders and regulating authorities.

Yanmar president Takehito Yamaoka said: "We are very happy to have concluded an agreement for the acquisition of Terex Corporation's small and medium sized construction machinery business, which possesses a strong Europe-based sales network and excellent products, including the distinguished German Schaeff series, in a move aimed at expanding the Yanmar group's small to medium sized construction machinery business. I believe this tie-up will promote not only short term, but also the long term growth of the Yanmar's construction machinery business, by expanding our portfolio and supplementing the sales network of our French subsidiary.

This may well be the first sale in the dismantling of Terex Construction business, allowing group to focus on cranes, aerial work platforms, telehandlers, Fuchs material handlers and the minerals and materials processing businesses, all of which have a strong market position.

This latest move follows the sale of the port crane and industrial overhead crane business to Kone Cranes earlier this year.

Realist
Looks like it could be the beginning of the end for the Coventry built products of site dumpers, rollers and backhoe loaders as this sale also includes the parts distribution centre in Rothenburg for those products. Maybe Yanmar have their sights on these especially with their split from Ammann?
