The new crane features a maximum radius of 5.2 metres where it can lift 400kg, yet it weighs just 245kg - a vital factor in company’s decision to purchase it. With 360 degree continuous slew the PH270L is also fitted with an electronic capacity indicator system with an LED display showing the percentage of the load chart being lifted. Swarco also selected an additional one metre boom extension, radio remote controls and a high speed hoist.

Based in Milton Keynes, Swarco provides highway maintenance including road marking, signage, signalling, traffic management, services and solutions. It particularly liked the fuel efficiency and payload that the lightweight crane provides.

Swarco’s Mark Hickmott said: “The PH270L offers low-weight as well as a long reach which is exactly what we were looking for. We have to move signs of varying shapes, sizes and weights on a daily basis, so the equipment needed to be able to handle all these variants. The crane is an integral part of our operation. Easy and quick access to manufacturer spares and after-sales support was also important and knowing that Penny Hydraulics has spares in stock and a nationwide network of engineers on hand, gives me peace of mind that we can always remain operational.”
