Synthetic rope for Middle East

An 80 tonne Grove RT880E has become the first crane in the Middle East to be fitted with Samson’s K-100 synthetic hoist rope.

The synthetic rope, designed specifically for mobile cranes, is a result of a joint development between Samson and Manitowoc and is 80 percent lighter than the regular wire rope and features torque-neutral technology, eliminating load spin. The K-100 rope is also more environmentally friendly, in that it does not require any lubrication.

Fitted to Consolidated Contractors Company’s crane in Qatar, the hoist rope was installed as part of a three day event consisting of testing, training, handling, and inspection. It was first launched at Conexpo 2014 in the USA, and has since passed vigorous ultraviolet light tests in a real long term work environment.

Samson’s technical sales director Dennis Sherman said: “Samson is very excited about the new opportunities that will be presented to us now that K-100 is available throughout the Middle East. This synthetic rope will have a significant impact on the lifting industry in the region and we feel it is a true game changer for crane customers.”

Yannick Richaud of Manitowoc Cranes in the United Arab Emirates added: “K-100 will generate plenty of interest here in Qatar and crane enthusiasts in the Middle East will see the numerous benefits of this innovation. Additionally, customers, especially those in the oil and gas industries, will feel confident investing in a product that has been tested by a reputable and well-known company such as Consolidated Contractors Company.”
