Palfinger P550 is really the P570

A story we missed posting in all the Bauma rush and chaos was the conversion of Palfinger’s 55 metre P550 into the 57 metre P570.

The P550, mounted on a three axle chassis was launched last spring at Intermat, but then at bauma it suddenly became the 57 metre P570. Possibly in response to the new 57 metre Ruthmann T570HF?

The company said that the additional two metres were always there in reserve- with additional boom section overlap and system programming we assume? – and that it has now optimised the working height to suit customers looking for maximum working height. Other than the maximum working height, the unit remains the same and is mounted on a three axle truck, with spare payload for equipment etc…, but can also be mounted on a four axle chassis with additional counterweight.

Palfinger has said that it has offered all those customers who have already purchased a P550, a free update to convert their 55 metre P550s to the 57 metre P570. One of the first machines to be upgraded is owned by German rental company Roggermaier.
