New Grove GMK 4100L

Grove will launch a new four axle, 100 tonne GMK 4100L All Terrain taxi crane, the GMK4100L-1 with greater capacities and more compact dimensions.

The new crane offers a load chart said to be 6.9 percent better than the crane it replaces, when equipped with its 26.2 tonnes maximum counterweight. The crane can carry 6.7 tonnes of counterweight and still meet 12 tonne axle loadings, and in this configuration the load chart is 9.3 percent better.

In the UK the crane will be able to carry up to 19.9 tonnes of counterweight. The company says that in North America -where the crane will usually travel with all counterweight removed - it will have the lowest Gross Vehicle Weight of any four axle 100 tonne/ 60 metre boom crane. The look of the crane has also been improved with a facelift that includes a new carrier cab.

The new Grove GMK4100L-1 is half a metre shorter and only 2.55 metres wide

The 60 metre main boom can be extended with an 18 metre telescopic swingaway extension with up to 45 degrees of offset, to which an eight metre extension takes it to 26 metres. The GMK4100L-1 is also more compact with an overall width of 2.55 metres, compared to the 2.75 metres of its predecessor and is half a metre shorter. Power comes from a single Tier IV Final/EUROMOT 4 Mercedes-diesel. The 4100L-1 also incorporates Manitowoc group’s Crane Control System (CCS) with a new Boom Configurator Mode.

Jens Ennen, senior vice president All Terrain and truck-mounted cranes said: “We have focused strongly on bringing superior reliability, return on investment, ease of transportation, user friendliness and capacity to this crane. With class-leading load charts and specifications, the new GMK4100L-1 is a highly mobile crane, suitable for use on job sites around the world. The GMK4100L exceeded our expectations in both performance and reliability so we are expecting the GMK4100L-1 to continue this tradition.”

The new cranes will begin shipping during the third quarter.
