Mobile height booster

Spotted in the UK a couple of months ago two men using their van to boost their working height to clean windows.

A reader spotted the men at the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton working on the multi storey car park. The two men, who work for a local cleaning and guttering company, were using a long handled brush to clean the windows on the glass façade which is at least 14 metres high.

Clearly the brush is not long enough to reach even half way up the building, So the two have climbed onto the van’s fully loaded roof rack, and standing on the ladders and other items stowed on the rack they proceed to wash the glass. But the van is clearly not high enough – so what next?

Even with the van the brush appears to be too short

With all their attention focused on the brush head and standing among the ladder rungs the chance off falling off the van are pretty high. Clearly this job had to have been quoted for, and should therefore have been properly planned. But it is hard to imagine the method statement said: “If the long handled brush won’t reach try standing on the roof rack of the van”?
Definitely one for our Death Wish Series
