Imperial Crane snaps up Speedway

US crane rental company Imperial Crane Services of Bridgeview, Chicago, has acquired Speedway Crane, of Manhattan/Joliet, Illinois.

The acquisition is aimed to provide Imperial with greater coverage to the South West of Chicago – Speedway is located in Manhattan south of Joliet. Imperial Cranes also has locations in Indiana and Texas. Speedway Crane, was established in 2002 by one of Imperial’s crane operators, Mike Fitzgerald. It has a remarkable zero accidents record in its 13 years of operation.

Speedway Crane Rental will add to Imperial's taxi crane fleet

Fitzgerald, who spent 12 year with Imperial before branching out on his own, said: “Speedway Crane is a great fit for Imperial Crane as both companies strongly focus on safety, customer service and retaining skilled employees. Imperial Crane’s solid reputation in the industry and continuously expanding fleet will allow us to magnify our existing relationships with our customers and offer additional resources that weren’t available to us before the merger. Being a previous employee of Imperial, I recognise that Imperial and Speedway share the same values and vision.”

Imperial’s owner BJ Bohne added: “We are excited about this new venture and look forward to passing on the benefits of this partnership to our loyal customers. Imperial Crane Services was established by John Bohne - the son of a German bean farmer-in 1969 with a single 25 ton crane. He then built the business into one of the country’s strongest family owned crane companies.

His son B J. Bohne took over the company after his father’s death in 2003 and today the company runs a fleet of more than 300 cranes, topped by a 500 tonne Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1. The company also runs Rough Terrains up to a 160 ton Tadano, Crawler cranes to 300 tonnes along with truck cranes, boom trucks and telehandlers. Revenues now exceed $100 million and the company employs more than 500.
