Fatal lift incident

A man has died after the aerial lift he was using went over at a bus depot in Cork, Ireland.

The man, Peter Downey, 55, a father of four, was working as a contractor at Bus Éireann's Capwell garage in Cork on Monday. We understand that he was working alone from the platform of a compact scissor lift, possibly working on the bus washing rig, when it was started up and the travelling part of the rig trolleyed into the platform, causing it to overturn. Downey suffered serious head injuries in the subsequent fall and has been in hospital in critical condition until passing away yesterday, as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The company says that it is co-operating with Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority in discover exactly what happened.
