Marlboro takes LTM 1300

Johannesburg, South Africa-based rental company - Marlboro Crane Hire - has taken delivery of a Liebherr 300 tonne LTM 1300-6.2 primarily because of its 78 metre main boom.

The new crane fills the gap in its fleet between two other Liebherrs, a 250 tonne LTM 1250-6.1 and a 400 tonne LTM 1400-7.1. The addition of the 300 tonner allows the LTM 1400 to carry out jobs suitable for its load capacity class. Previously it was used on contracts where its capacity was often larger than required.

Company owner Oliver Dalais was particularly interested in the long telescopic boom. "A large radius is often required for hoisting work in this class. The 78 metre long boom on the LTM 1300-6.2 is therefore a real benefit for us since we will no longer have to fit a folding or luffing jib for many jobs."

The six axle crane is the first crane from Liebherr to feature the single-engine concept which Liebherr says benefits from reduced maintenance work and lower weight, which can be used for load-bearing components. Dalais also focused on the good design of the chassis: "The LTM 1300-6.2 provides easy access to the engine which is very important to us."
