Fatal pick & carry crane accident

A man steadying a load for a pick & carry crane has died this morning in Carole Park, near Brisbane in Queensland, Australia this morning.

The incident - at the premises of a blasting and coating company called TranZblast - occurred as the crane, an articulated Franna type pick & carry model, was carrying a long steel pipe in the company's storage yard. We understand that the man, 33, was steadying the pipe when it broke free from the crane's hook and landed on him.

No one else was injured in the incident although the crane operator is being treated for shock. Workplace health and safety investigators have arrived at the scene.
