Deutz to launch EU Stage V engines

Engine manufacturer Deutz is set to launch its latest TCD engines between 2.9 to 7.8 litres that meet EU Stage V emissions as standard.

The Stage V sandard was proposed in 2014 and is expected to be implemented in January 2019. Deutz says it is able to meet this standard by fitting diesel particulate filters (DPF) which are already successfully in use in series production engines.

Michael Wellenzohn, a member of the Deutz management board said: "Our Stage V ready engines allow us to provide our customers with the best possible support in their transition to Stage V products. We will achieve this thanks to the experience we have already gained in exhaust gas after treatment, especially in the use of diesel particulate filters. We will, as a result, be providing an assured technology at a very early stage, plus a flexible time frame for implementing it without customers having to make costly modifications to their machines."

He said there will still be so-called emission downgrade engines, making it possible to use an across-the-board engine platform both in Stage V markets and in areas with more relaxed regulations.

The company, working as part of a joint research project with Rostock University has converted a diesel engine to run on natural gas and successfully installed it in a fully working tractor. The aim was to reduce pollutants and CO2 emissions without any loss of performance. Various components of the basic Deutz TCD 3.6 engine had to be adapted to meet the different circumstances.
