Gatwick Plant acquired

UK loader crane and specialist transport company Gatwick Plant has been acquired by R Swain & Sons.

The deal, which was completed at the end of September, includes the assets and goodwill, with all the operational and sales staff remaining with the business.

The company will continue to operate under the Gatwick Plant name and will function as a separate standalone company within the Swain group. Matthew Swain will be the director with overall responsible for the Gatwick Plant operation, based at Swain’s Rochester head office.

Gatwick Plant owner Bob Toon is planning to retire, but will continue to be involved in the business for the next six months to ensure a smooth hand over. Gatwick Plant runs a fleet of Hiab loader cranes and spider cranes, it also offers a mobile crane hire and contract lifting service.

Founded in 1918, R Swain & Sons is a transport, logistics and operating from three locations - Rochester, Kent, Manchester and Burton on Trent - with annual revenues approaching £50 million. Last year it acquired Birmingham based heavy haulage contractor Hallett Silbermann. It now forms part of the group’s special projects division which is also where Gatwick is likely to fit.
