New Hybrid port crane for Vienna

Hafen Wien Vienna harbour - has taken delivery of a new 84 tonne Liebherr LHM280 mobile harbour crane

The port on the Danube river is continuously expanding to become one of the largest and most modern logistics centres in Europe. The new crane can handle up to 84 tonnes and has an outreach of up to 40 metres, the crane is equipped with two winches for more efficient cargo handling.

The new crane replaces a 25 year old Liebherr LHM 1080, but has double the performance, although it is 55 metres high and weighs 240 tonne it is highly mobile and versatile. It includes Liebherr’s Pactronic hybrid drive system with regenerative power fed back in from lowering the load and stored for use when the crane requires peak power during hoisting, providing economies said to be as high as 30 percent.

Hafen Wien has also ordered the crane with Liebherr’s optional Cycoptronic system that helps ensure accurate and sway-free load motion by initiating dynamic counterbalancing movements for operation at maximum speeds. The Cycoptronic teach-in feature is a point-to-point control for semiautomatic operation. It pilots the crane to predetermined loading and unloading points at the highest possible speed. The crane will be used for container handling and bulk handling as well as general cargo operation.
