New Potain city crane range

Potain has launched a new range of MDT CSS flat top city tower cranes, the MDT 109, MDT 139, MDT 189 and MDT 219 - all evolutions of company's previous MDT City cranes - with jib lengths ranging from 55 to 65 metres and lift capacities from six to 10 tonnes.

Unveiled last Friday at a customer event at the company's facility in St Pierre de Chandieu, France, the new cranes features the latest Manitowoc group Crane Control System (CCS) which is said to improve speed and precision.

With CCS fitted, Potain says it takes no more than 15 minutes to commission the crane on site. Setting the limit switches, load limiter and moment limiter are all done on-screen from within the cab.

The new cranes feature Potain’s Ultraview cab and the new Potain Plus function which offers precision control and increased load curves. The system monitors itself in real time, ensuring proper operation of the crane, while a seat sensor prevents the crane from being operated unless the operator is present.

All MDT, MD and MR range tower cranes will now use this cab and control system set up, in order to make them easier to commission, operate and maintain as well as simplifying training for operators and technicians.

An integrated diagnostics tool offers easy monitoring of the crane settings, operations and service maintenance. The system also features a remote function, CraneStar Diag, allowing technicians to remotely monitor the crane in real time.

Jean-Noel Daguin, senior vice president of Potain tower cranes said: “We are at the forefront of tower crane development and our control system will demonstrate this. For years we have built cranes that are easy to assemble, available in flexible configurations and simple to use. We are now entering a new generation of tower cranes, with the highest level performance available".

"Our engineering teams worked over several years to make this new crane concept a reality. Now they are better than ever, with features that surpass all performances currently available in the tower crane market.”

The new MDT CCS cranes will start shipping later this year.
