Grove ATs for US Army

The US Army has signed a $192 million contract for the supply of Grove GMK 4100 All Terrain cranes, with a 60t rating.

The five year deal for customised GMK4100B cranes has a two year extension option that could take the total value of the contract to $258 million.
The special modifications to the cranes, specified by the army, include the ability to ford water up to 1.2 metres, cope with harsh conditions, and be able to operate pile driver, clamshell, concrete bucket and concrete barrier lifting attachments.

A crew protection system will also be installed to protect those operating or driving the cranes. The cranes will largely be operated by Engineer Brigades division of the U.S. Army, although other divisions will also be able to procure similar units.

The contract also includes the building of a simulator for the cranes that will enable soldiers to train remotely from the cranes, while Manitowoc Crane Care will provide support for the cranes wherever in the world they are sent.

The US Army has ordered Grove GMK 4100B All Terrains

While the standard GMK 4100 is built in Wilhelmshaven, Germany the customised GMK4100Bs will be built and tested at the manufacturer’s plant in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. The first deliveries are expected to begin sometime next year. The modified GMK4100B will have a 60 ton (54.4 tonnes) rating a 33 metre main boom, Mercedes power and 8x6x8 drive.
