JMS takes Genie SX-180

UK rental company JMS Plant Hire has taken delivery of one of the first 180ft Genie SX-180 boom lift shipped into the UK. The new machine was supplied by local distributor APS.

Offering a 54.8 metre working height and an outreach of 24.5 metres, the SX-180 went straight to work with Portsmouth Demolition & Salvage, to assist with the demolition of the tower and spire of Punshon Memorial Church in Bournemouth. The investment follows the recent purchase of a 135ft Genie ZX -135/70 and a 185ft JLG 1850 boom lift earlier this year.

Mark Jackson, founder and managing director of JMS Plant Hire, said: “The Genie SX-180 is a great addition to our fleet. We continue to invest in the best machines at the top end of the scale, as part of our strategy to be the national supplier of choice for big booms and scissors. As an authorised Genie dealer, APS could offered us an attractive lead time and pricing for the SX-180. It also has a track record of providing us with excellent customer service.”

JMS has taken delivery of the UK's first SX-180 boom lift

Just in case you are wondering, Kardon Kontracts originally order the first SX-180 destined for the UK late last year (see:Big Genies for Kardon). It clearly had a change of heart and has since ordered a further four 185ft JLG 1850 boom lifts. Scheduled for delivery in the coming months, this will bring the total number of 1850s in its fleet to 10.

UPDATE

We checked out the first claim at the time of writing, but now understand that Lavendon/Nationwide Platforms actually took delivery of the very first Genie SX180, although it has yet to confirm this. The JMS unit came shortly afterwards.

The Captain
i'd love to see some accurate utilization stats for JMS, i don't believe their sales team can keep their bizarre fleet mix busy.

Emperors new clothes
They are certainly going for it, but the time is right, cheap money, amenable manufacturers and a buoyant UK market. The smaller independent rental companies are doing well because they are agile, customer focused and can make decisions quickly.

Gasping for air
Does JMS stand for 'Just More Steel' as it's growth rate is exponential and it seems to be buying everything from everybody and anybody? It appears to be defying gravity, (which is handy in this industry), so good luck to them.
