Tadano ships 1,000th 100t/80tn RT

Tadano has built and shipped the 1,000th 80 tonne/100 ton GR-1000XL/GR800EX Rough Terrain crane since it was launched in 2011.

The 1,000th unit, a GR-1000XL, was shipped to the Houston facility of the group’s North American distribution business - Tadano America.

Tadano Chief executive Koichi Tadano speaking to staff at the machine’s shipping ceremony, said: “In 2011 when the GR-1000XL was introduced, the Great East Japan Earthquake cut off Tadano’s supply chain, causing a one-time shut down of the assembly line at the Shido plant. Our employees worked hard to fulfil delayed orders for customers who rely on Tadano around the world. Overcoming this crisis has helped us to arrive at this day of commemoration.”

“Since then, the GR-1000XL has earned a reputation for reliable, high quality, and environmentally friendly performance. This machine has been particularly popular in places where harsh environmental circumstances make it difficult to replace cranes experiencing down time, such as energy development jobsites in North America, the Middle East and Russia, and mining jobsites in South America, Australia, and South Africa”.

“Even in the face of huge fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Japanese yen, which often has a negative impact on exports from Japan, sales of the GR-1000XL remained high and customer response was extremely positive. After the exchange rate stabilised and became more favourable due to the weaker yen, GR-1000XL production has accelerated. We have achieved the milestone of 1,000 units produced and shipped within the outstandingly fast period of 4 years”.

After the speech, a Japanese-style prayer ceremony for product safety and success was held, and the 1,000th machine began its voyage to Houston, Texas.
The GR-1000XL is rated as a 100 ton unit at eight feet radius/ 90 tons at 10ft, while the European version is rated as an 80 tonner at three metres radius.
