Safety accreditation for Merritts

UK heavy lifting and haulage company Merritts has been achieved Safecontractor accreditation for its health and safety procedures.

Under the Safecontractor scheme, companies undergo a vetting process which examines its health and safety procedures and track record for safe practice. The accreditation is aimed to reassure contractors that the suppliers they use are fully signed up to a safe culture of work with systems and controls in place to help ensure consistency. It is also subject to a renewal and a regular audit.

Darren Hardy, Merritts marketing manager, said: “We want to give our customers the confidence that every single project will be carried out to the correct health & safety guidelines and regulations. We ensure the correct systems are in place to recognise the risk of accidents to all persons concerned and implement the appropriate safety measures to provide the safest possible working environment. Our health & safety department have over 30 years’ experience within the industry and are specialists at project planning and CDM management.”

Safecontractor technical director John Kinge, added: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place. More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Merritts have done.”

Based in Nottingham, Merritts specialises in the lifting, transportation, installation, removal and storage of manufacturing machinery and production equipment.
