Roto overturn in NZ - UPDATED

A 360 degree telehandler has over turned on a wharf in Auckland, New Zealand. As far as we know no one was injured in the incident.

Initial reports we were sent suggested that the Merlo Roto 40.18, owned by Total Access, was fitted with an aerial work platform attachment and that a man was hurt. Details surrounding the incident are limited but it is clear that the boom was fully extended at the time of the incident and that the stabilisers were not deployed. Almost certainly leading to a loss of stability.

We now understand that rather than a platform the machine was being used to lift a suspended load from the regular forks.

The owner of Total Access has been in touch with us to say: “In response to your story regarding our Merlo Telehandler tipping over. There was no basket on the Merlo and no one was hurt. It clearly shows in the photo the machine had forks on when it was tipped over by a very irresponsible operator that was operating the Merlo with a load hanging under the forks by a chain.”
