Saubot elected

Haulotte chief executive Alexander Saubot has been elected president of the French employers association/confederation - l’Union des industries et des métiers de la métallurgie (UIMM). He won in the first round of the election by winning 52.14 percent of the votes cast.

While he became the favourite towards the end, his election is still a little surprising, given that he hesitated for some time, before agreeing to put his name forward for election.

He has been elected for a three year term, which can be renewed once only for a second term. He succeeds Jean Luminet who has acted as interim president since 15 December, following the departure of Frédéric Saint-Geours

The UIMM is a national association representing around 43,000 industrial enterprises, in the metallurgy/metals, machinery, automotive, shipbuilding, aeronautics, rail, electrical and electronics, and Nuclear sectors, and includes 12 professional federations and 70 regional trade associations.

It claims that its members employ over half the country’s three million industrial workers, and not only lobbies government on behalf of its members, but also supports them in a number of different ways, including with training and recruitment.
