New SC&RA Foundation scholarship

Frank Bardonaro of Maxim Crane has established an SC&R Foundation named Scholarship/Grant Programme in memory of his father Frank Bardonaro Sr.

The new scholarship is one of two new scholarships, both of which will be funded for at least five years.

Recognising the need to attract a broader range of people into the crane industry, the Bardonaro Scholarship’s ideal candidate will be a family member of an existing industry professional, who has been involved in charitable work, has a high grade point average, a good range of extracurricular activities at school and the desire to focus on improving the lives of those in the crane and rigging sector.

Bardonaro Senior spent his entire career in the crane and rigging and transportation industry mentoring hundreds of co-workers. He was a pioneer for developing operator and driver safety programmes, as well as state-of-the art dispatching techniques back in the 1970s. A tribute to him after he passed away last year said: “Frank led by example by going over 30 years without taking a sick-day at work and personified the ‘Never Give Up’ motto. His determination, spirit and faith gave him the strength to not only beat cancer longer than anyone said he could, but to still work, play and continue to enjoy his family and friends”.

Bardonaro served as dispatcher and operations manager for 27 years at Carlisle Crane, which, in 1999, merged with Anthony Crane to become Maxim Crane Works. He left Maxim in 2002 to become vice president of operations for Ohio at AmQuip, and then special-projects manager until his death last year aged 71.

His granddaughter, Alexys, is the third generation of the family to work in the industry, having worked as an intern during her college breaks.
