Huisman cranes for Maersk

Offshore marine service provider Maersk Supply Service has ordered six Huisman cranes including four of its new 400 tonne/metre rope luffing knuckle boom cranes and two 100 tonne/metre knuckle boom cranes.

Unveiled last year, Huisman’s rope luffing knuckle boom crane combines the benefits of a normal luffing crane with a traditional knuckle boom crane. As such it offers a high lifting height and good capacities at outreach. It can also be stored vertically saving valuable deck space.

The four rope luffing cranes will be manufactured at the company’s facilities in China, the Netherlands and Czech Republic, while the standard knuckle boom cranes will be manufactured by Huisman’s sister company SMST. Due for delivery in 2016 the cranes will be installed on four new subsea support vessels.

Huisman chief executive Joop Roodenburg said: “We truly cherish this new collaboration as we value the professional input of all parties involved. We trust that the pleasant and constructive cooperation will lead to a long term partnership between our companies.”

The contract also allows scope for an additional two 400 tonne/metre rope luffing knuckle boom cranes as well as four 100 tonne/metre knuckle boom cranes.
