First female technician for Konecranes UK

Konecranes UK has appointed its first female field service technician, Natasha Cairns, based at its North East service district in Gateshead.

Joining a team of 280 nationwide crane and lifting equipment service engineers, Cairns will focus on the manufacturing, automotive and nuclear sectors, assisting with breakdowns and repairs, as well as delivering planned service and maintenance programmes for a range of cranes and hoists.

A former electrical maintenance apprentice within the fabrication and welding sector Cairns has BTech 2 and 3 qualifications in electronics and has completed Konecranes’ Techmasters 1 induction course at the company’s UK training headquarters in Castle Donington. With a HNC and HND in mechatronics, she is also in the process of undertaking further intensive hands-on product training prior to fulfilling her role in the field as a fully competent service technician.

Konecranes director of west Europe, Pat Campbell said: “We are obviously delighted to have Natasha onboard in the North East and we are extremely confident that she will prove to be a popular and capable member of the 34-strong team of field service technicians that look after a diverse range of customers in what is a strategically important part of the country.”

Cairns added: “From a young age I always had a passion for electronics, so being able to work in this field for such a well known and globally recognised name as Konecranes is like a dream come true. The training that has been extended to me so far has been first class and I intend to work hard to develop my career within what is acknowledged as a very progressive and dynamic organisation. I am really excited putting things into practice on a day-to day basis, working with whole team associated with the North East service district.”
