Ferguson was previously a territory manager for online auction house IronPlanet. Before that he was vice president of sales for Acme Lift.
The new used equipment division will focus on aerial work platforms, telescopic handlers and pick & carry cranes. It will work in cooperation with the company’s re-rent fleet and machine restoration facility. It will also offer finance and rental purchase options.

Reconditioned machines include a 90 day warranty, and all sales come with a 72-hour money back guarantee. The current inventory includes equipment manufactured by JLG, Genie, Pettibone, P&H and Terex.

Ferguson is an equipment rental veteran having started out in 1992 at Prime Equipment in Garland, Texas. Three years later he moved to Horizon High Reach in Irving, Texas, as an outside sales representative. In 1998 he joined Mango Equipment in Irving as sales representative for Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana.

When Mango Equipment was acquired by United Rentals in 1999, Ferguson remained with the business and over the next 12 years held several branch management jobs before being promoted to manager of new business development, with the brief to set up branches across the Gulf Coast and the Midwest. He joined Acme in 2011 as regional manager for the Gulf Coast and central region, and was promoted to vice president sales in 2012.

“The odds are good that we will have the equipment customers are looking for, but if we don’t, we will find it,” said Ferguson. “Auctions are in business to achieve one goal - to sell each asset for the absolute top dollar with no regard for customer satisfaction or retention. USM is in business to provide our customers with the highest quality equipment at a fair price. Plus, we can offer our customers any level of re-conditioning they desire.”

General manager Chad Cochrane, added: “Mike was tapped to manage our growing used equipment inventory because he is uniquely positioned to understand the rental industry’s needs. Previous success at managing millions of dollars in assets and overseeing new branch start-ups make him a valuable addition to the US Markets team.”
