Setting an example

A reader in the UK has sent in a Death Wish example of a tree surgeon which does not set the best example for safe working at height.

Spotted in a cemetery in Westonzoyland, Somerset, the tree surgeon has been lifted to a height of four metres by an old telehandler in order to trim the tops of trees using a small chainsaw.

The Sanderson Teleporter – aptly named as you would probably need a teleporter to still find one – has been fitted with a bale handling attachment with a wooden pallet placed over the prongs. The man looks to have all the correct equipment, then proceeds to lean out from the ‘platform’, assumingly held in place by the hay attachment, in order to trim the trees.

All the while, the telehandler operator appears to have a small child on his lap for the ride, hardly setting the best example – especially if something tragic was to happen.

In the words of our reader: “Cutting top of trees around the cemetery in Westonzoyland Somerset. At least he is in the right place in the case of accident and fatality!”
