JCB to cut jobs

JCB has announced plans to cut around 150 jobs at its UK operations due to a slow-down and lower 2014 revenues than expected.

The company blames the slower activity on the uncertainty caused by sanctions on Russia, with the cuts likely to be to largely office based jobs, while its expansion plans are also likely to be slowed. Redundancies will be made across its facilities in Staffordshire, Wrexham and its engine making plant JCB power systems, in Foston.

A 45-day consultation has begun with the hope that the majority of the required job cuts will made up of employees taking voluntary redundancy or early retirement.

JCB employs around 6,500 in the UK and exports almost 75 percent of its production.
