Loader crane failure

A Copma 990 loader crane mounted on a four axle truck, owned by York, UK-based A.Rhodes Haulage, collapsed, following a structural failure whilst placing a Portakabin Titan temporary building.

The 99 tonne/metre loader crane's articulated joint at the top of the turret/superstructure suffered a major failure causing the four section boom to crash into the cabin.

No-one appears to have been injured, and although failures such as these are rare, it could easily have been a much more serious incident. The outriggers appear to be fully extended and set up on a concrete slab however no mats were used.

The Copma 990 can lift 12.4 tonnes at 6.28 metres and 3,500kg at 18.2 metres.
