Crane rolls into ravine

A crane left the road just north of Rollesbroich south west of Aachen, Germany, near the Belgian border yesterday.

The three axle All Terrain crane was travelling south on the L160 - a minor road through hilly and quite remote countryside - when it crashed through a barrier on a tight bend just before a bridge. It then slithered down a ravine into a small stream.

Where's the crane?

The driver, 23, was unharmed in the incident and was able to escape from the cab and call the emergency services. The fire department managed to winch the crane upright and called in two larger cranes in order to try and lift the machine back onto the road, the work continued into the late evening. Meanwhile the road was closed to traffic.
