Whyte 500 tonner recovered
The 500 tonne crane that overturned in Peterhead, Scotland back in May has finally been recovered.
The Liebherr LTM1500 - owned and operated by Whyte Crane Hire - tipped over backwards when the ground under one of its outriggers gave way. It was working at Aquatic Engineering and Construction’s base on the Dales Industrial Estate in Peterhead, Scotland. The crane remained in its overturned position since then while a recovery plan was agreed – see:

The recovery operation - under the direction of Crowland Cranes - was carried out with a focus on minimising the damage to the crane as well as in the safest way possible.
We hope to have a full and detailed report on the recovery operation in the near future. In brief, the process involving a number of cranes, aerial work platforms and telehandlers, saw the recovery cranes support the weight of both the crane and the top end of the boom. The boom was then cut free from the base section using a cold cutting technique. With the extended part of the boom removed, the base was carefully turned until it was finally upright once again.

agree with Lofty, some of the crane incidents in this country are diabolical, basics not being done, short outriggers, no ballast, overriding, anti two blocks not working etc. etc.

Maybe it would be more appropriate to prevent these avoidable incidents than high five each other for a recovery exercise ?

I was part of the recovery operation onsite with whyte cranes and would like to thank peter and his team from crowland cranes and liebherr for their assitants and being involved with this skilled operation job well done all round ,,,,,
