Simon platform plant commemorated

A commemorative plaque has been unveiled at the site of the old Simon aerial work platform plant in Dudley, UK.

The plaque details the innovations and achievements the company made to build the Snorkel hydraulic platform for both fire and civilian applications. The company went on to build over 13,000 units before the plant was closed down.

The commemorative display was created by artist Steve Field and unveiled on Saturday, during the Black Country Vehicle Day in Dudley, as a part of a celebration that included a procession of classic vehicles.

Denis Ashworth, the long time engineering director at Simon attended the ceremony and joined in with the celebration. His book 'Going up in the World', detailing the history of Simon, is available from the Vertikal Press.
