Josef Treffler 1934-2014

Southern German crane rental veteran Josef Treffler died last week aged 80.

Treffler took over the management of the family’s long established carpentry and wood frame buildings business in 1964, and a year later he acquired his first crane to help erect the large timber beamed structures.

The business evolved into a crane rental business that also offered marquee/temporary structure rental. The fleet now operates cranes up to 500 tonnes capacity and employs 65 across three locations in Munich, Ingoldstadt and Wessiszell.

In recent years he ran the business with his daughter Petra and in May at the company’s 150th anniversary he addressed the issue of his retirement by saying: “That will be determined by when I stop”. Sadly this has now occurred.
