Terex RT for Iowa

Iowa based contractor Peterson Construction has taken delivery of a 64 tonne Terex RT 670-1 Rough Terrain crane from local distributor RTL Equipment.

The RT 670 uses the same chassis and outrigger system as the larger 73 tonne RT 780 and features a 33.8 metre main boom plus a 10.1 to 17.4 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, which can be offset by zero, 15 or 30 degrees. Maximum tip height is 51.8 metres.

The crane went straight to work on Van Diest Supply Company’s Building 46 project in Webster City, lifting beams, columns, rafters and walls, as well as positioning tanks weighing up to 6.8 tonnes.

Paterson Construction’s senior vice president Joel Peterson, said: “We have already picked an object at a radius of 27.4 metres which means we don’t have to keep resetting the crane nearly as much, making us more efficient with lifts. The RT 670-1 crane also offers more than twice the lift capacity at these longer working radii that the 36 tonne crane we have on site.”
