Manitowoc completes MLC650 testing

Manitowoc has completed maximum load testing its new 650 tonne MLC650 crawler crane which was launched at Conexpo.

The MLC650 successfully lifted its 650 tonne maximum capacity and completed a maximum load moment test with the crane boom positioned over one corner of the crane in order to apply the maximum level of stress through the structure. It also carried out a variety of lifts using its Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) system.

Dustin Soerens, Manitowoc marketing manager, said: “The lift went very smoothly. It was a momentous occasion for everyone at Manitowoc that has worked so hard to make this crane a reality. The successful completion of the maximum load tests is a positive sign that the rest of the structural testing will go smoothly. Typically, if any major design changes would be required, they’re found during this test. We can now rest assured that we’re well on our way to releasing this innovative crane to the global market.”

The company has also said that it is “only a matter of time” before the MLC650 is ready for the global market.
