New facility for Gunnebo

Lifting and material handling equipment manufacturer Gunnebo has opened a new production facility in Växjö, Sweden.

The new facility has been built to bring all its manufacturing processes - forging, heat treatment, machining, assembly, testing and painting - under one roof. It also features a new hardening and tempering facility as well as fully automated machining and testing facilities. Previously the company had its forging and components factory located 500km apart which required a product to travel more than 1,000km before being sent to the central warehouse.

Lennart Nilsson, Gunnebo vice president of operations, said; “It was in January 2013 that the decision was made to merge the two factories to a new and improved unit. The merge went very well and we had machines moved, installed and running at a very fast pace. The project has gone above expectation and we now have a plant we can be very proud of.”

Based in Västerås, Sweden, Gunnebo has recently celebrated its 250th anniversary having established in 1764 as a small hammer-smithy in the town of Gunnebo. The company now has manufacturing facilities in Sweden, Norway and the US as well as eleven subsidiaries throughout the world.
