Man shocked by de-energised power line

A man working in an aerial lift was seriously injured after he touched a deactivated high tension overhead power line near the Eklutna Generation Station, to the north of Anchorage, Alaska on Wednesday.

The man, 35, a linesman working for Northern Powerline Constructors was shocked by residual electricity, with an entrance wound on his hand and an exit wound on his chest. The company is currently connecting the new section of the power plant into the local transmission system.

The man was airlifted to a local hospital and treated for severe burns, before being taken to Seattle, Washington for specialist case. He is said to be in serious but stable condition, with possible internal injuries in addition to burns.

A later bulletin reports that the man is progressing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
