Straddle carrier overturns in Melbourne
A straddle carrier overturned in a Melbourne container yard yesterday, trapping the operator.
Information is a little scarce, but the crane fell onto its side injuring the operator, driving the machine from its elevated cab- roughly 15 metres about the ground. He was cut out by the emergency services and rushed to hospital with head and suspected back injuries. He is reported to be in stable condition, following treatment. It looks as though the crane was not carrying a container when it overturned.

The crane shown in this post is an straddle carrier (SC) and not an RTGC (rubber tyred gantry crane).
