MBO at Scholpp Crane & Transport

Martin Scholpp has purchased the German crane and transport division of the Scholpp Group, returning it to 100 percent family ownership.

The move comes just over a year after German private equity firm Odewald & Compagnie took a 49 percent stake in the Stuttgart based international lifting and shifting group. Martin Scholpp departed from any operation duties within the group at the end of last month, although he retains a stake in the larger business.

A statement from Scholpp cranes said: “The more regionally influenced crane business requires a separate strategy to serve customers and the market, for this reason Martin Scholpp decided to acquire the business which formed the foundation of the group back in 1956. The newly independent business will have a market-leading position in the Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Heilbronn crane markets, with an owner fully committed to the local business.”

The new company has a fleet of over 30 All Terrain cranes and around 80 employees. The move follows a number of recent investments in new cranes, including a fully equipped 500 tonne Terex AC 500-2, a 70 tonne Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 and a Liebherr MK 88 self-erecting mobile tower crane.
