Danger Tower

Spotted on Saturday in the UK a man working on a scaffold tower at a height of around five metres, totally oblivious to its safe use or set up.

It is hard to know where to start here, the tower is set up on the pavement/sidewalk with no consideration for pedestrians, he is at a height where is probably should have at least two stabilisers in place especially as its not quite level -and yet he has none, the bracing looks a little minimal for the height, there are no toe-boards and worst of all no guardrails. Add the risk of falling on to the exposed spigots in the case of a slip or fall and the risks are clearly very high.

Spotted in the Telford area in the UK a tower in use with no considerations for its safe use

In the words of our correspondent: “Thought you may be interested in these photo's taken on Saturday 29/03/2014 on Walker street, Wellington, Telford. As is obvious to everyone who views the pictures, the faults with this tower are clear, except to the company using it and the fellow risking his life on the platform.”

“I am a PASMA instructor for a national training company. I was truly shocked when I saw the tower, and had to stop the car and explain to a guy on the ground the problems and the risks. At the same time a traffic warden was taking an interest in my car which was parked illegally. I had no option other than to simply pass on my business card to the guys, suggest, they had a real requirement for training rather urgently, then dashed back to the car to escape any penalty charge. I doubt any traffic warden would be interested in any legal duty to report a dangerous act or breaking of the WAH Regs.”

A closer look

The fact is that this man is not only endangering his own life, but that of others, including passing pedestrians and motorists. And the mess if he did fall could traumatise innocent bystanders for life.

A most definite entry into our Death Wish series.
