Ledger leaves Kimberly

Ray Ledger is retiring as chairman of Kimberly Group at the end of the month, aged 65.

His post will be taken up by Steve Harrison, as a non-executive chairman representing Kimberly's private equity investors while Geraldine Unsworth, currently group managing director, will become chief executive.

Ledger led the buy out of Kimberley from previous owner Gary Smith in 2007 following 40 year career in the UK and international rental industry with Hewden Stuart, Scott Greenham, BET Plant Services and the Longville group - see: Ray Ledger moves into Kimberly

In order to further strengthen the Kimberly board Janet Ault, an experienced health and safety manager, has been appointed group HSE director and a head of engineering and product development, joining the business early in the new year.

Ledger will continue to act in a consultancy and advisory role and will continue to have a close involvement in the investigation into the fatal accident involving the Genie Z-135 in June.

Speaking about the announcement Ledger said: “I derive great satisfaction to be leaving behind a great business managed by a very capable and dedicated team who will take Kimberly on to the next exciting stages of development.”

Ray we often spoke about time to retire and you will be happy with your decision I am sure. You have worked hard and as you know it has been great knowing you in business and personally. You were scrupulously fair in your dealings with me at Demag and always had the right take on the economy of the Crane business. I am sure you will be missed (especially as someone already commented you look so young!!)but we will no doubt be speakigng as usual. Take it easy, Barry

My association with Ray goes back many years to the BET Plant Services takeover of PTP Aerial Platforms. I found Ray a very hard taskmaster but a great boss and a clever businessman.
I wish him all the best for his retirement and good luck for the future.

I have noticed a lot of thumbs down, well its a shame that people can't acknowledge that Ray ledger is a total business man plain and simple, so lets give the guy credit for his skills and his business acumen, Ray Ledger employed a guy called Paul Todd to director at Kimberly and that was the best Director I have ever worked for and he will always be the guy that I will always stride to be like in business, Toddy, your a top guy and the best Sales Director at Kimberly, and that is FACT, Ben cross was and still is the best sales guy on the circuit, happy Christmas to all you guy's and good luck for 2014.

Ray Ledger, I have worked with him and a number of the team at Kimberly Access, we never always agreed on issues, but no one can fault this guy's business skills and his ability to turn a sinking ship around and make it a success, Ray Ledger is a great Business man and a very decent guy, I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for giving me the opportunity to work with him, good luck and enjoy your retirement, you have earned it.
