Fatality in Plymouth

A man in his 50s died yesterday while working on a submarine at the Babcock Marine dock in Davenport, Plymouth, UK. Reports say that he was working from an aerial lift at the time and had become trapped.

The man, Keith Stevens, 57, was employed by Pyeroy, which works as a sub contractor to Babcock. And was apparently working on the temporary roof above a laid up submarine.

The company confirmed that the incident had occurred but has not provided any details of the incident or how the lift was connected with the fatality, but will update when we know more.

UPDATE

It seems that the man was removing plastic sheeting from between the beams above the submarine when something caused him to slump over the controls, causing the crushing incident. No one on the ground knew how to operate the lower controls which resulted in a delay before he was brought down. By then it was too late.
