First LG1750 for Canada

Surespan Wind Energy Services, a division of the Surespan Group, has taken delivery of the first 750 tonne Liebherr LG1750 lattice truck crane in Canada.

The new crane has begun work at Pattern Energy and Samsung’s joint venture South Kent Wind farm in Southern Ontario, Canada, where it is being used to construct 124 Siemens turbines.

The LG1750 combines superstructure, boom and jib of the LR1750 crawler crane, with a compact eight axle 16x8x16 chassis. Four hydraulically folding outriggers make up the cruciform 16 x 16 metre support base and travel with the carrier.

Ernest Jones, Surespan Wind operations manager, said: “The LG1750 provides us with unparalleled flexibility to move the crane freely through a mixture of project and county roads while minimizing rigging and relocation time. The service we have received from Liebherr through the acquisition and training process has been second to none and we look forward to building on our success with Liebherr and their team in both North America and Europe.”

Operating throughout Canada and the United States, the Surespan Group provides a large range of construction and engineering services including bridge building and engineering services, heavy lift and rigging, steel and precast concrete manufacturing, wind turbine erection, transmission line construction, crane rentals, industrial concrete work, ready mix concrete and property management.
