BA and Working at Height

British Airways has ordered 35 Genie aerial work platforms from UK access platform specialist Working At Height.

The deal follows a competitive tender for the lifts which are destined for the company’s requirements at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Working At Height worked closely with British Airways for 12 months prior to the order being placed and included extensive trials at both Heathrow and Gatwick. The trials proved beyond doubt that the Genie models quoted were ideal for low level access to the company’s fleet of aircraft. British Airways has used a wide range of Genie platforms for many years, and they have earned a solid reputation with the airline’s staff for ease of use, reliability and safety.

The first Genie GR15 lifts are ready for delivery

As a UK Genie dealer, Working At Height had the task of introducing and specifying the latest models to British Airways and understanding its requirements and then proving that each model offered the access required.

The trials highlighted the compact Genie GR-15 Runabout’s ability to quickly access the wheel bays of a Boeing 747 and other large aircraft in the fleet, as well as access the underside of wings, including leading and trailing edges of all aircraft types, and other aircraft surfaces up to 6.47 metres. Another model, the GR-26J mast boom, was chosen for its versatility and ability to lift two people to around 9.9 metres to reach the wings, fuselage and stabilisers on most aircraft types.

The order also includes 20 and 26ft Genie GS-2032 and GS-2632 scissor lifts, which will replace the veteran Genie V18 vertical sigma type lifts, that have been in operation at Gatwick for more than 20 years.

Working At Height is based in Surrey, and is almost an equal distance between Heathrow and Gatwick airports, making it an ideal location for parts and service.
