Hitachi for UK contractor

UK civil engineering and piling contractor Burras has taken delivery of a 55 tonne Hitachi-Sumitomo SCX550 crawler crane from the manufacturer’s UK distributor NRC Plant.

The SCX550 features a 52 metre main boom with a six to 15 metre fly jib, offering a maximum system length of 58 metres (43m + 15m). In its maximum configuration it is able to lift 1.2 tonnes at a radius of almost 44 metres.

Having purchased its first hydraulic crawler crane – a 50 tonne SC500 – from NRC in 2011 the company said: “The benefits that a hydraulic crane with its smooth operations and versatility was instantly obvious. Also the ever increasing health and safety demands of construction sites means that this crane gives us the opportunity to tender for jobs that would have been previously unsuited to us.”
