Oil & Steel appoints Mantis Access

Italian truck mounted and spider lift manufacturer Oil & Steel has appointed newly formed Mantis Access as its sole distributor for the UK and Ireland.

Mantis Access is a new division of Durham based Mantis Cranes, the British sales, rental and service arm of the Irish based self-erecting tower crane manufacturing group.

Mantis Access will initially concentrate on the sale of truck mounted and spider lifts as well as develop a market for larger platforms mounted on All Terrain tracked carriers.

The new business and relationship will be officially launched at Vertikal Days later this month where the company will show a 3.5 tonne truck mount, an 18 metre Octopussy evo and a 21 metre Snake 21.12 mounted on a Terex 4x4x4 dumper chassis that it has sold to a forestry company.

Seamus McMenamin of Mantis said: “We will use the experience we have gained from our crane manufacturing division and engineering skills to mount platforms on bespoke vehicles to meet customer’s specifications. Service will be provided from its base in both Durham and Wellingborough with existing engineers being cross trained to cover both access and lifting equipment.”

Oil & Steel sales director Giovanni Tacconi added: “Oil & Steel feel that there is potential for a committed company with the right range of products within the UK market. Mantis Cranes seemed like the obvious choice for us with their existing knowledge of working at heights, manufacturing techniques, and the reputation of customer support offered by them to their customers.”

“While Oil & Steel has an extensive range of products that suits the market we needed a strong committed partner and Mantis can also use its existing engineering skills to overcome any issue that might arise while mounting the equipment onto different chassis. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Seamus and his team.”
