Brundell steps down at CICA

Jeff Brundell has resigned as a director of CICA - the Crane Industry Council of Australia after more than 25years on the board.

Brundell is also a two term past president – 1994-96 and 2002 to 2004 – and a major driving force behind the establishment of the CraneSafe programme of which he has been co-ordinator and director of since 2008.

He was presented with the Con Popov Award in 2003 and given a CICA Life Membership in 2011 and has been the CICA ‘champion’ on the Safe Work Australia WH&S harmonisation and Code developments.

CICA chief executive Alan Marshall said: "Jeff's resignation from the CICA board is a huge milestone. His contribution, strength and leadership to progress CraneSafe and CICA over many years may never be fully appreciated. In recent years Jeff has been devoted to developing and overseeing the CraneSafe Programme and CICA, and most weeks has spent many hours in the role, either by phone, email or at face to face meetings.”

"His departure will leave a significant gap in our organisation as he is irreplaceable. Jeff has voluntarily chosen this time to step down with the knowledge that a strong succession plan is in place with Brandon Hitch as general manager of CraneSafe following more than two years with Jeff as a mentor. On behalf of the CICA board, members and staff, I thank Jeff for his enormous contributions and support to progress our industry. As a CICA Life Member and industry expert we look forward to his on-going industry participation.”

CICA president John Gillespie added: "As members will know, I have worked closely with Jeff for many years to progress CICA and CraneSafe, along with many others, and I wish to fully support and publicly thank and recognise Jeff for his wonderful efforts on the CICA Board. While we may not always agree with Jeff, no one can doubt that he has been a strong and influential contributor and a major factor in CICA’s and CraneSafe’s ongoing success. Thank you Jeff".

Brundell has been invited to attend the CICA 2013 Conference in Hobart this September, Where members will have the opportunity to recognise his role directly.

Vertikal Comment

While none of us at Vertikal have worked directly with Jeff Brundell - or had to debate a serious issue with him from the other side of the argument for that matter - we have though been a very close witness to many of his achievements over the years, and recognise the significant role he has played in establishing a crane safety and inspection regime that is not only world class, but which sets the standard globally.

We have also witnessed his big smile and sparkle in his eye that makes him such a likeable individual. Hopefully his retirement from CICA will not prevent him from staying involved in an industry that he clearly loves.
