Tower crane recovery begins

Ainscough Crane Hire has supplied a Terex TC2800-1 to make-safe the damaged tower crane on St Georges Tower, Vauxhall, London.

A selection of cranes began arriving yesterday ready for a planned lift tomorrow, however high winds and snow could hamper the progress. The stricken crane stands at a height of around 180 metres or so.

The 2800-1 has arrived

The 600 tonne TC2800-1 has a maximum tip height of 192 metres when fully rigged With 96 metres of main boom and 96 metres luffing jib, in this configuration it can handle around 19.4 tonnes at 46 metres radius - which ought to be sufficient to remove the tower crane components.

The superstructure comes down

UPDATE

The TC2800-1 has been successfully rigged over the weekend, the boom is up and crane in place.

We understand that on Monday a man basket will be used to obtain a close view of the damage and help plan the removal of the jib and the damaged superstructure and tower sections.

A plan will then be completed and take place during the week. We do not know at this stage if the crane will be removed entirely or a new crane lifted into place on the existing tower.

We will update as an when we receive new information.
