Bauma China opens to large crowds

Bauma China opened in Shanghai today to huge crowds of visitors, with the show over 30 percent up on two years ago and possibly twice te size in terms of cranes and aerial lift exhibits.

The show entrance was crowded all morning long

Local producers stacked out their stands with new products, many of the prototypes rushed out in time for the show opening.

First impressions - at least on the crane side was locally built look alikes

The first impression one has when walking in the door is that Chinese producers are more into copying or closely imitating western producers than ever before. Closer inspection of many of them actually reveals that while the concepts have been copied the designs are critically different. But more on that after the show.

Cranes and platforms crowded the skyline

Key new products to mention at this stage are:
- A 3,600 tonne crawler crane from Sany which utilises a design that fits between Liebherr’s P-Boom and the Terex Twin concept with the undercarriage of Manitowoc’s 31000 with four smaller crawler tracks.
- A 600 tonne Sany All Terrain
- An 800 tonne Sany crawler crane
- A telescopic mobile tower crane from Sany that resembles the Grove GTK concept, but actually uses superstructure slewing rather than top slewing.
- A 2,000 tonne All Terrain crane from Zoomlion that looks like a Liebherr LTM11200 9.1 superstructure with an LG1750 chassis -designed for the wind industry the top has to be removed for the road and the 12 axle 24 x 12 x24 chassis travels to site with just the outriggers on board.
- A heavy duty lattice tower crane device from Zoomlion that is carried on an All Terrain type chassis, once again destined for the wind industry
- A truck mounted 800 tonne lattice boom crane from XCMG that looks very much like a Liebherr LG1750.
- A 100 metre Mercedes truck mounted aerial lift from XCMG for fire and rescue work.
- A Mec Titan 40S lift look alike from Dingli, with 1,800kg platform capacity dubbed the GTAZ 16550.
- A 22 metre high by 1.2 metre wide PB look alike scissor lift copy from Dingli
- A 16 metre working height slab scissor that has the similar dimensions and weight to most 14 metre - 3946 - models.
- Several new spider lifts from Sino boom, JCHI and others.
- Two new low spec inexpensive lifts from Genie from the local market under the Sky Safe banner – A 40ft fixed frame boom and basic five metre push around scissor lift
