Three Challengers for Blansjaar

Dutch heavy lifting company Blansjaar has taken delivery of three new 55 tonne Terex 3160 Challenger All Terrain cranes.

The three-axle Challenger 3160 has a maximum capacity of 35.6 tonnes at a reach of four metres and can be operated independently by a single person and meets the 12 tonne axle loads fully equipped. For countries with a maximum axle limit of 10 tonnes, the crane can quickly remove its own counterweight to take GVW to under 30 tonnes.

André Van Der Dussen, owner and managing director of Blansjaar, said: “It has already been worth the investment, rental rates are good and it’s so quick to rig and de-rig that we can handle as many as five or six jobs a day. The crane is extremely flexible, and its long boom easily clears the distance we need without installing a jib. Our operators find its compact design makes manoeuvring much easier, which is perfect on city jobs.”

Founded as a haulage company in 1932 it was not until the 1960’s that the Wateringen based company invested in its first crane – the largest telescopic crane in Holland at the time. Five decades later Blansjaar operates a fleet of 33 mobile and crawler cranes, all of which are less than six years old. The company said it is particularly proud of its specialised skills in handling rare and unique pieces of artwork, its highlight having to lift an Andy Warhol painting estimated at €25 million.
